Windows 2003 end of life

by Owen Redmond | April 8, 2015 | General News & Events | 0 Comments

Microsoft Windows 2003 server is nearing its end of life.  Microsoft have announced that they will be terminating all support for the Windows 2003 server by 14th July 2015.  This means that Windows 2003 server will no longer receive any security updates or support, leaving any business still operating this version at risk.

Microsoft and ICE are urging businesses currently operating 2003 servers to plan an upgrade pathway, moving to the more recent Windows 2012 R2 server or a cloud services solution such as Office 365.

With limited time left, the time to migrate to a more up-to-date server is now.

Though mainstream support was ended over four years ago, many companies have continued to use the extended support services which will no longer be available after the deadline date of 14th July 2015. Microsoft have emphasised a number of problems that could occur if companies do not upgrade, such as:

  • Security risks and vulnerabilities no longer fixed
  • Incident support will become chargeable
  • Regulatory non-compliance issues (Such as PCI DSS, ISO 9001 etc.)
  • 3rd party software may no longer work or be supported
  • Systems may cease to operate correctly

ICE engineers are experienced experts in safely migrating data from Windows 2003 Server environments to Windows server 2012 R2 and Office 365.
There is no better time than now to review your upgrade pathway and ICE can assist with options that are more affordable than you may think.

If your business is in need of server migration don’t hesitate to get in touch and see what ICE can do for you.
