HF Holidays was essentially formed in 1913 by Thomas Arthur Leonard, in an effort to provide people with 'exceptional walking experiences in beautiful locations'. Leonard established the Holiday Fellowship in response to his original Co-operative Holiday Association becoming 'too middle class', with HF adopting a simple ethos and a stronger focus on internationalism.
From 1914 he provided holidays in the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District and also to Germany, making HF Holidays one of the very first overseas tour operators.
Today, over 5 million people have enjoyed a holiday with HF, and their list of destinations is a far cry from that which was on offer 106 years ago:
